There is no way spider beetles could possibly "burrow" into your logs. There may be old rodent bait somewhere in the structure from which they are originating. Photos would be essential in helping you identify what might be happening to the log home.Tom ParkerEntomologist

The going theory is that the beetles could be feeding on debris in the crawl space or wall voids, and could potentially be burrowing into the logs and covering a relatively large area - but that has yet to be confirmed. With pest control measures, we need to consider staff and visitor safety as well as not to contaminate the museum collections. I am hoping to gain some clarity on how to go about working with contractors on this issue - has anyone worked with an entomologist or pest control specialist in a historic house?
