I agree with Tom. A photograph would help with identification. If there was
food there at some point, then an infestation might have started with that.
And if the area was not thoroughly cleaned there is probably plenty of food
left for the larva to thrive on. Since she is painting the room, she might have
disturbed the population – what ever the pest is. Housekeeping is often the key
– clean in every crevice and crack. Also laying out the blunder traps – so we
can get a positive id.

Good Luck to her
Gretchen

Hi Tom,
I believe she is in the DC/Maryland region. I would be happy to put you in
direct touch with her,
if you like. Please call me 301 625 5717.
Thank you so much for your quick response.
Best,
Hilary

Photos would certainly help. Where is she located?

While I am no longer in conservation, I spoke with a paper records person today
whose problem piqued my interest. She is swamped with what she calls "pantry
moths." I promised to reach out to this group to learn what could be done. I
suggested she investigate their source. She admitted there was once plenty of
food available, but it is now gone. They have put blunder traps about, but
these creatures are "flying everywhere." She is busy repainting the walls in
her office, but I don't know if that action will have an impact. She works in
a very tiny federal agency and wears many hats. I would be grateful for any
wisdom to share with her on this topic. Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Hilary
