Looks like a phorid (humpback) fly to me. If it is, look for decaying organic
matter in trash or, worse, a leaking sewer pipe somewhere. Common breeding
sites include floor drains, trash containers, elevator pits and garbage
disposals, and where drain or sewage pipes have broken under slabs or in crawl
spaces.

Subject: [PestList] Flying insect ID

Hello all,

I'm hoping for some assistance. We started seeing these flying insects in one
of our cellar-level storage spaces last month and have been unable to identify
them and what may be causing them (see attached images). The Seek app suggests
that they are Humpback flies, but we aren't sure. Is that correct? Thanks!

Best,
Meghan
