Can't answer the question directly Alexandra, but I recall a very useful
presentation from the pest groups
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1k5LundGcc , somewhere in the middle of
the session was the latest work on the Pest Occurrence Index which helps
you monitor trends over time regardless of how many traps are checked or
put down in any given period. I would suggest this would be a crucial
step in being able to describe your manageable and unmanageable amounts
and not be influenced by having extra data from some periods, or less in
others if the monitoring goes a little haywire.

Good afternoon list,
I hope you’re all well.
I am currently writing an IPM instructions document for our
institution. One of the questions that often comes up is at what point
do you have enough pests to qualify for interventive treatment? Whilst
attempting to get to zero pests is lovely I’m not sure that’s
something that can be realistically achieved in most institutions.
So, if for example you have a catch of silverfish in one of your
traps, how many would one catch before saying you have too many and
need to put down some pesticide? 5/10/20? Considering the blunder
traps are only a small representation of floor space in the store if
you have say 10 silverfish in the traps I assume that the amount of
silverfish in the store overall is much greater.
Does anyone have a hard cut off line for what is a reasonable amount
of pest activity or a “manageable” amount? Or if you just have some
thoughts on the topic that would be great!
Thank you so much,
Alexandra Wade
