Each parenthesis is one "token". The more tokens you need to process, to
more you need to think. (Especially if there is little whitespace, but to
some extent also if not.)

"I know it when I see it". I don't have a definition that I can put in
words. But it probably involves whitespace between tokens and the number
of tokens.
