Tom,
  I'd like to second the above.  We need your insights (as well as those of
others) as to what Perl *is* in this whole discussion.  Likewise with Larry.
He may have said that perl6 is the community rewrite, but I for one hope that
doesn't mean he's abandoning us.  Perl gets much of its unique flavor from its
"natural language" concept and the two of you lead the pack in knowledge both
of natural language per se and of Perl's connection to it.
  Would you be willing to give us a first shot at what Perl *is* to get the
discussion going?
