TPF has been accepted by Google as a mentoring organization:
http://code.google.com/soc/2008/; from their website:

<< We'll begin accepting student applications on Monday, March 24,
2008, so you have a full week to get to know more about what your
would-be mentors are looking for and to hone your proposal ideas.
Remember, the more a mentoring organization knows about you, and you
about their code base and community, the more likely it is that your
application will be attractive to your potential mentors >>

If you meet google's criteria and are thinking of applying, please
feel free to ask questions about parrot related projects on
[EMAIL PROTECTED], or about perl6 (rakudo, pugs, et al.) on
perl6-compiler.

We also have a presence on #parrot and #soc-help on irc.perl.org, as
well as #perl6 on freenode.

See http://www.perlfoundation.org/perl5/index.cgi?gsoc2008_projects
for some project ideas if you're a student, or to suggest projects.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing some exciting projects. =-)
