Thanks much for the pointer. Informative rant. Point well-taken. I should have included the qualifying phrase "user-side feature set" with "industrial-strength". Know of a better Perl-based alternative? Here are major lists of alternatives that I know of: * (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiEngines) * (http://www.wikimatrix.org/) * (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software) After going back over the lists, the only other Perl-based wiki that seems notably interesting and promising (IMHO) is Wifty: (http://jifty.org/view/HomePage). Wifty is new and a bit bare-bones. It's at the other end of the (presently user-visible) feature-scale from TWiki. However, it's based on a very intriguing Perl web framework. It would provide much more of a (presumably) clean slate and a (presumably) substantially more powerful platform to build on than TWiki. There are also some additional mitigating factors to consider with respect to TWiki: (0) Granting the author's criticisms (in the originally-mentioned TWiki rant above), there are still some moderately substantial industrial users of TWiki: (http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Main/TWikiInstallation), even if you only consider entries made/updated in the last couple of years or so. (1) Despite the initial problems with TWiki, the author apparently continued using it internally in Sun for quite some time, including up to the present, AFAIK. (2) The author has provided information about how to deal with some major TWiki problems in the above and previous blog posts. (3) We wouldn't be upgrading TWiki (well, not from twiki.org, that is), which was the proximate cause of the author's rant. (4) In the nearly 3 months since the above rant, neither the author nor other commenters indicated a better Perl-based alternative (especially with support for plug-ins). The author is leaning towards a Java-based alternative. (5) Most of the poor coding practices {could, should, would} be cleaned up in the incremental process of Perl 6 conversion. So, what are you're (all the readers') thoughts about Wifty versus TWiki (or some other existing Perl-based alternative)?
