See the INSTALL file supplied with Perl5.6.0 or later.  If you have any
questions after that, let me know and I'll try to answer them.

You might want to build on top of some of the ideas hinted at in
perl-5.6.0's "installstyle" Configure variable. See Porting/Glossary for
the full definition.

The directory structure may also be affected by the goal of allowing the
simultaneous installation of multiple versions of modules.  (I don't
recall the relevant RFC offhand, but I think there's was also a similar
idea in Larry's Atlanta speech.)
