You don't need to use raw .tar. Archive::Tar works perfectly fine with .tar.gz files. Compression effectively takes care of the padding with nulls, because they get "compressed away". The compression is handled by the Compress::Zlib module. So if there is any redistribution licensee problem, I expect it to be there. -- Bart.
