I should have added that the binary and workload files ARE installed
as part of 2008.11 They are in /usr/benchmarks/filebench
It is the source that is on Open Solaris under /usr/src/cmd/filebench
I think the source on Open Solaris is for one rev later than what is
in 2008.11. (1.4.3 vs. 1.4.4)
As for getting rid of the SourceForge, I think the Solaris make files
only work for Solaris. SourceForge is supposed to work for the other
two, and I thought the last tar file (1.3.4) that was uploaded to
SourceForge did build on OSX and Linux. However, I don't have such
systems to test it on.
The method we have for creating and uploading tar files is rather
cumbersome, let alone trying to keep the main SourceForge tree in
sync, as it uses a different source control system than what
OpenSolaris is using. But it was felt there were advantages to having
it under the OpenSolaris umbrella.
I unfortunately don't have much experience with Linux or OSX, so I
would welcome any offers to keep FileBench working well on those
platforms.
Thanks for your comments, BTW.

Drew,
Thanks for the update. From looking at the source browser it appears
there's a number of new features in there that I'll find useful. On
my 2008.11 box there's nothing under /usr/src so I'll have to pull
onnv and give that a go.
Keep in mind that, from an outsider's perspective, it looks like
Filebench was thrown over the wall and forgotten. I would suggest
pulling the SourceForge project if it's not a priority to keep it up-
to-date. However, as the original poster pointed out, pulling all of
onnv is rather burdensome if you just want Filebench. (In my case I
need to get a build of onnv going for other purposes anyway.)
Filebench is a very good and necessary tool; I've tried everything
out there and there's no other workload simulators that don't suck.
And there's no way to design a storage system without simulating load.
Best regards,
Josh
