Hi,

I have two similiar spec'ed machines concerning CPU, Mem, and I/O and observed
dramatic differences concerning startup times of soffice on both machines. So I
gave it a try and took a first glance at the startup procedure using truss.

Like this I observed that on the slow machines, soffice goes through all kind
of subdirectories in /usr/share/locale and seems to be opening all .so files
available. A big number of files located there are contained in the
SUNWgnome-l10nmessages-extra package. So I removed this package, which mainly
seems to consist of mostly exotic localizations that we really don't need.
Result: *boom*! soffice starts blindingly fast on this machine.

I don't know if anyone is aware of this interaction and how it could be fixed,
but I think this should be investigated, as it makes the combination of
staroffice and solaris look very slow (several minutes startup time in contrast
to only seconds), if the package in question is installed...
