Hi Christopher. I have a, new to me, SF-1 that uses the first AF of which you speak:) Up until spring 2000 when i bought it, all my cameras were mf ones. They were fine for the work i was doing,as i can prefocus on horse jumps and fire away when they appear. I wanted to do other equine events which are fast paced and require,to me,an AF function to keep up. Although this is the first version of the system i find, using a Sigma 100-300 4.7 6.4 DL lens, that the servo mode is quite good.I can follow the horse/rider around the ring with the shutter down half way and the af will track them, what i think, is quickly.Others may disagree. I looked at a Nikon 801 the other day, thinking i would use it with the 80-200 f2.8 i have for my D1 but i did not trade in the SF-1.I could make a sandwich faster than thae camera would focus in single mode(i am exadurating<g>) Based on my own personall observations between SF-1 and 801 the SF-1 is much faster. I think i will serve you well. BTW not thinking of trading up just yet. Dave

I was considering picking one of these up on ebay to get a "Servo Auto Focus" option for action photgraphy. I realize that it's original the SOFAX system, and might not be up to the AF standard of a newer body, but I really need a continuous focus option. Currently I think that's only available with the MZS and ZXL. Comments, based on experience? Please CC me directly as I am in digest mode.
