David,

I just checked your home page with the HTML validator in Alaire HomeSite and it
came up with 60 errors (and I have the validation sst just to show actual arrors
rather than minor stuff).

I'd recommend getting an HTML validator like "A Real Validator"
(http://arealvalidator.com/) I think it costs $25.00 but you can download a
30-day trial version for free. Sticking to valid code will not only make your
page more compatible with different browsers, it'll help it render quicker too
(especially important in the case of visitors with slow dial-up connections -
they don't call it the "world wide" web for nuthin'). Also get Elizabeth
Castro's book "HTML 4 for the World Wide Web". There's a web page for the book
at http://www.peachpit.com/vqs/html4

For general usability information there's no better source than Dr. Jakob
Nielsen, who is *the* authority on web usability. His web site is at

Stuck With Old Browsers
http://www.useit.com/alertbox/990418.html

I particularly subscribe to Dr. Nielsen's belief that lack of support for old
browsers should be proportional to your willingness to turn away potentially
useful visitors. Most people are quite reluctant to upgrade browsers and surveys
show that this tendency is *growing*, not decreasing, as the web matures. The #1
page on the net (in terms of traffic), yahoo.com, makes sure its page works with
browsers back to versions 3.0.
