I realize I am a weirdo. I keep my IE browser up to date and, though I don't currently use it, I order Netscape on CD whenever they offer the latest and greatest. I just pre-ordered Netscape 7.0, so they'll send me a CD-ROM copy as soon as they make it available. The reason I do this sort of thing is because a lot of my friends rely on me to keep their computers up and running for them. I am an old fart, 66-years old, and I've been involved in home computers from the beginning, unlike most of my peers. I don't get anything out of doing it except for the satisfaction and bragging rights, which are, in actuality, a lot. :-)
I believe that, whenever we start to have trouble displaying websites, it's time to upgrade our browser. Computer languages, like HTML, XML , et al, are evolving. Syntax should evolve towards the simple, not the complex. Opening tags should remain in effect until a new opening tag is used, which should make closing tags unnecessary, or mostly so, anyway. There are always special cases. I look forward to the day that I can enter into an oral, conversational dialogue with my PC and have it execute my commands without need for keyboard or mouse. That day is coming, just not as quickly as I would like.
