I was under the impression that the "harshness" of midday sun was
due more to angles and being less diffuse than to simple intensity.
So I hadn't expected a ND filter to do much more good than just
upping the shutter speed (assuming you're not trying for slow-shutter
effects). Had I misunderstood the nature of the problem with noon?
