Yes, that's the outside diameter of the "cup".  5mm is about 1/4".

I noticed them because I was close up and also because I'd seen photos of them, 
otherwise I might have thought they were some kind of seed.  There were a few 
small patches of them.

It's not actually mushroom season but we've had some wet weather lately 
followed by a couple of warm days so I wasn't surprised to see a few.
