Bob - hehe - I could have just sent the photo to you , of course - but
maybe others would have been familliar . scroll right and you get my
black and white conversion..
so even more of the atmosphere you note in the other response . It was
the look on the guy's face that struck me.. I think I was working on
capturing the art nuveau stuff and he appeared.. I was shooting manual
with my Kx.
I had it in my mind it was near /l'Opera.. /but didn't trust my memory.
I think the line I took from the place I was staying on the Rue St
Jacques was an RER train.. to get to the right bank...long long ago.

I can’t make out the names at the low resolution of the photo. But above his
right shoulder is a bus stop and you can make out the name of the stop - Opera
- which is near rue Auber. There is still an Olympic Airways office listed at
3, rue Auber although the building now appears to be a Museum (but probably
just a shop with prétentions) of Perfume.
A bit of hunting with Google Maps shows the two street name plates at the
corner of rues Auber and Scribe, and at ap event level is a subway entrance
with decorative railings that match your photo.
The bus stop is no longer there, but there is one called Opera nearby.
