Subash,

I am sure some people will respond with more detail. But I thought I'd offer the little bit I know about this lens. Some 12-14 years ago, when I was looking for a fast 300-ish, I also considered FA* 400 available from a local photographer through Craigslist.
I met him in a shopping area parking lot, and tried this lens on my camera
for some 20 minutes
(I don't remember, it was probably *ist DS, or maybe it was already K-7).

After this speed-dating, I liked this lens. I would probably buy it now. But at that point, it was not what I needed (a bit too long, and not fast enough for my needs).

It's well built. You definitely need a good tripod/monopod with it, but you know that.

I do not remember if it was one of the lenses that was yielding some purple fringing on digital bodies. Either I was not concerned much about it, or it was not there (or it was very mild).

i recently used for 4 days the FA* 300/4.5 of a friend and liked it
quite a bit. i've been looking at buying (may be, perhaps) the FA* 400
and would love to hear perspectives/opinions of those who have used it:
the IQ, how it handles, etc...

the only source for them is of course Ebay, mostly from Korean/Japanese
sellers. i am a little wary of buying the DA* 300 because of the SDM
problems...

i can buy the DFA 150-450 but it is prohibitively expensive here. for
the price, i can buy a nikon d7200 and the nikkor 200-500/5.6....,
which is another option...

thanks for your inputs. appreciate them.
