I've done exactly that in the past with flashes - though I put the
flashes in the box. Main flash is typically pointing up at the top of
the box or directly at the subject with a mini soft box mounted on it.
The fill flash is on an optical trigger and facing the side of the box
to fill it with soft diffuse light. I just use small flashes. Since its
all manual I use an old AF500 FTZ as the main light, since its useless
as a TTL flash on newer cameras. I'd have to upscale the setup
considerably to use it with continuous lighting though. Or find smaller
continuous lights...
