Hi Brendan, Slight correction:
Swish the film in the fixer solution until it's clear - however long that may be. Then double that time, and that's the FIXING time. However, in order to do this properly, you must start with freshly made fixer in order to establish a base clearing time. Let's say that it takes your film one minute to clear. Then you'd fix the film for two minutes. Check the clearing time every few rolls. When the clearing time doubles, in this case to two minutes, it's time to replace the fixer.
