Hi David ...

Take a piece of the film you'll be developing (you'll be cutting some of
the leader off in order to load the reels, use that piece) and swish it
around in the fixer solution that you'll be using.  Time how long it
takes for the film to become clear.  Then double that time for fixing
the film.

Fixer can be reused.  When the clearing time doubles the fixer should be
replaced with fresh fixer.
