Well it's a re-badged Tamron with Pentax Electronics and SMC. Tamron makes
good lenses. I used to use the Pentax 28-200, also a re-badged Tamron,
along with the FA 20-35 as a two lens kit, On the *ist-D the Ds and the
K20D and it was much better than it's reputation, (until I banged it around
enough that some of the elements decentered, not the most robust lens,
though there was a lot of metal in it's construction for a bargain all in
wonder). The 18-250 actually has a much better reputation so I'd expect it
to be pretty good. Keh.com actually has a couple of Tamron branded versions
in stock, so you might look at those.

Thanks, score two for the 18-250mm. It's a cheaper lens too, which given the
use it will get with the worst weather months ahead, probably not a bad
choice. I'll see what I can find - Pentax or Tamron.
