So I finally decided to upgrade my ageing computer. I'm almost embarrassed to say how old it is. In fact, I *am* embarrassed to say, so I won't!
So, a motherboard transplant has taken place. Fast, multi-core processor, lots of fast RAM, USB3, etc. And, as the subject line says, it's agony. Not the physical replacement of the motherboard, of course. That took an hour or so and was a snap. But you really need to re-install the O.S. when you replace a motherboard, so I went with a clean install. Which also isn't really a big deal. The big deal is re-installing and configuring all your applications. That's the agony. After a day and a half of stress I've got all the drivers up to date for the new hardware and all the basics installed (color management, profiling software, etc.). Now I get to add all my main apps, including parts of various Adobe suites (some from CS6, some from CS5 and some from CS4). I haven't even dared count how many other apps I have to set up. Time to take up drinking, I think.
