Darren, it is not 100% certain... It is possible that the lens was badly shaken in transit. I remember once a very big air-hole (turbulence) that as I was later said, is not uncommon when the plane crosses over from Med sea to Israel...
I may yet be able to recover some of the money via that Canada Post claim, but I am not going to wait... Rather I'll be ordering my new gear very soon.
