That's been my experience as well. Although I had to return leses a few
times (I have been lucky with the sellers so far)
I guess it's easy to explain: the lens is easier to check -- if it
looks good, it's probably good (anyone can see fungus, scratches, dust
inside, finish wear, tight rings etc, of course, unless it's an AF
lens). With cameras there are many more things that can go wrong and
which are difficult to check (is that shutter speed 1/125 or 1/190?),
at least untill you start shooting with it.
