Thanks Paul, Sandy, Steve, Ann, Dve and Dave! Paul, the train tour does look interesting. We would be in that neighborhood on 14-15 September, just at the front end of the Fall Colours season. A definite possibility. Sandy, thanks for the link and the comments on Georgian Bay. And also Dve and Steve for the Cornwall/Kingston suggestion. I had considered going east around Lake Ontario, i.e. via Kingston area and then WNW to SSM. I’ve spent time in and around Kingston (attended a couple of week-long conference/meetings at the military college there) and am somewhat familiar with both the U.S. and Canadian sides of that region. But Meg wanted Huron lakeshore, so we’ll go west around Toronto and then north… Sandy and Ann, I am also somewhat familiar with Sault Set. Marie, on the U.S. side. The locks are worth a visit but otherwise I would agree that it is probably not a destination in and of itself. But it is the only crossing into the U.S. from Ontario without dropping back down to Sarnia/Port Huron. Dave, I am glad to see that Ontario will reopen on Sept 9 - we’ll be passing through to NY on the 11th, back west on the 13-14th so that works out. ;-)
So far my Ontario experience has been 3-4 trips back-and-forth between Sarnia and Niagara, my time in the Kingston area, a few days in Ottawa, 2-3 trips to Toronto. So, no exposure to the countryside beyond the southern farming region. A fellow participant at my recent photo workshop is from Kitchner, he spoke of a park a few hours north where he went for scenic and wildlife shots. I did not pay much attention to details as I did not have this trip planned, and I don’t have his contact information to follow up with him. So part of my poking around has been to see if I can figure out where he was referring to. It could have been the Georgian Bay region. stan On Aug 27, 2014, at 1:22 AM, Paul <[email protected]> wrote: > If you have some time when you get to the Soo, the trip to Agawa Canyon on > the Algoma Central is a nice diversion.
