Steve, I regard the 50-135 as a "people lens". It's great for beauty
shots (face macro), portraits and group portraits where you want the
tele compression that brings the people together and is flattering to
heavier folks. And its optics are absolutely impeccable.

But because of its weight you usually need to use it on a tripod, and
has been pointed out its slow to focus. In studio I usually just use
MF. I'm hoping it will be better on my K-3, but then I would need to
let it go for a few weeks to get the SDM repaired, and I have shoots
scheduled so that ain't happening for a while.
