Steve, I regard the 50-135 as a "people lens". It's great for beauty shots (face macro), portraits and group portraits where you want the tele compression that brings the people together and is flattering to heavier folks. And its optics are absolutely impeccable. But because of its weight you usually need to use it on a tripod, and has been pointed out its slow to focus. In studio I usually just use MF.
