I neglected to mention that the spool's bottom flange, visible on the outside of the camera's bottom plate, does rotate, suggesting that the takeup spool's internal hub is turning as it should. This does indeed suggest that some kind of coupling hs jammed or broken. If I feel adventuresome, I may undo the bottom flange's screw and see what I find.
