You guys warned me that Ricoh SLRs aren't as reliable as Pentaxes, but... I recently received my first Ricoh SLR, an XR-P. I've been playing with it for a week before trying a roll of film. Well, everything worked fine until I explored the multiple-exposure lever. Now, try as I might, I can't get the slotted film takeup spool to rotate; the XR-P seems to be stuck in multiple-exposure mode. I've followed the release procedure found at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/xr-psingle/ricoh.htm but neither I nor a mechanically inclined engineer/friend can get the spool to move. The button that releases the film advance to allow rewind works as it should. Am I overlooking something?
Around the same time that I was learning the multiexposure lever, I installed the GR-4 grip and had considerable trouble getting it on before discovering that I must press the button on the bottom of the XR-P not just to release the grip, but to install it. Could my struggle to force the grip on have caused some damage to the film advance mechanism?
