I've learned to automatically bypass my GP for anything sports-related. The time I went to my GP complaining about achilles pain, he prescribed an anti-inflammatory that turned my head to mush. Since then I've been going to a private sports clinic for any help I need. I managed to get my current injury on ACC (government-run accident insurance) as my previous one, which I thought would only need a couple of physio sessions, cost me several hundred dollars over a few months. Unfortunately ACC seems to cover bugger all for this one and I'm having to pay for most of treatment myself anyway.
