Absolutely! As a cyclist I seem to make good use of our healthcare system! ;-)
Of course the flip side is that as a very fit individual I tend not to get sick and with my healthy ticker will likely live a long, illness-free life, so in the long run I'd like to think that I'll be less taxing (pun intended) on our system than most. Whenever Americans get into the debate about universal healthcare some point to the flaws in our system, most of which have to do with wait times (including emergency room line ups). Yes, it was busy last night (Friday nights tend to be a busy time) but you know what? I was there for about 2 1/2 hours. In at 7:30 out at 10:00. That's registration, triage, a nurse for initial interview and vitals, first interview with doctor, x-rays and assessment/follow up chat with doctor. Quite incredible, actually. In maybe a half dozen emergency room visits over the past decade on one occasion I spent 12 hours on a very busy night when my hospital was the designated trauma centre for the region. I understand triage and accept that delay. Otherwise I don't think I've spent more than 4 hours in emergency, 3 hours being closer to my average. Our system works very well for acute situations. I admit that I have heard of (but not directly experienced) some horror stories wrt surgery wait times. Cheers, frank (always ready to sound the trumpet wrt our universal healthcare system) "What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof." -- Christopher Hitchens --- Original Message --- From: John Sessoms <[email protected]> Sent: September 22, 2012 9/22/12 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: OT - Minor Cycling Incident Yeah, it could be a lot worse. If it happened here in the states you'd be dealing with trying to figure out how to pay for treatment. Hope you're feeling better soon. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
