something that runs continuously is needed, but it could still be renewable; there are also several potential mitigators: efficiency gains, storable electricity (e.g. people's cars being charged while they are parked at work), non-electric storable energy (e.g. solar thermal), and simply rationalizing behavior (using less energy when renewable sources are less)
I'm not against wind or solar, I just don't see the significant growth of their use happening soon.
