I agree with you, but that train has left the station. Pentax is never going to make it into Big Box stores and I think they realize that and have all but stopped trying. I think that's one reason that they were an attractive target for Ricoh, because (at least in the U.S. you don't see Ricoh in Walmart or Best Buy either). Pentax is not trying to be Volkswagen and dominate the world scene, however. They realize that they can make a nice living with an Audi or Subaru marketshare.
