Being in the suburbs, I don't run into the corner hustlers - what I do get
is constant phone solicitations.

What many don't realize is that these street corner charity hustlers are
not employed by the charities they solicit funds for. The charities
"subcontract" the work out to professional fundraising companies.
One can't imagine that much of the monies raised is left for actual
charitable work once these fundraising companies are done with it; then
there's the overhead and costs of the charities themselves.

First thing I ask when being solicited like this is how much the
organization they're representing will get. Most recently haven't even
been
close to 50% - last one stated 12% !
