I thought this work is quite interesting.
The author combines the photos from the events of WW2 with the modern
photos he takes in the same places:

Don't get scared away by Russian. Most photos have a caption in English.
(One photo with the title "Vyborg. Bridge to the past." is using a card
from 1910).
