Jack, in the preferences for Iphoto is an option "when camera is connected" he should set that to "no application" I am assuming he is dling from camera. I would also recommend in iphoto advanced he should uncheck when importing copy photos into Iphoto library.

I think it is better to copy photos into a folder on HD preferably external hd. Then manipulate with Aperture or Iphoto or Lightroom. However if he deletes renames or otherwise changes the file outside these imaging programs they will get confused. However more than one program can process the images in the same folder as the changes are non-destructive to the originals.

Hope this helps. Just ask if you need more.

I should know better than put myself here, but my brother recently decided to
be a Pentax photographer. He has acquired the venerable K10D and has installed
PSE9 on?a?recently purchased Mac.
He lives about?200 miles away. but?even if he lived next door I would be no help to him
in downloading images into PSE9. He tells me that when he downloads from the memory card
the images are "grabbed" by iPhoto and he is unable to?move them to PSE9 for
editing. He has no photo friends or acquaintances who have the slightest idea?of? how to
help him.
Anyone on the list have some very basic comments that I can pass along? He has
a computer geek son who might be able to translate for him, but one who is is
not into photography.

Thanks.

Jack??
