It sure is an apple to oranges comparison - the late 60's Trans AM race carts were no where near as streetable as the new Boss. It would be very interesting to see a comparison of a 69 Factory Boss race car vs the 20011 Boss street car.

That 444 hp is around what the output was from the '69' Trans Am
race car I crewed on in the late 60's and early 70's.

Are you sure you're not comparing apples to oranges?

The 60s/70s cars usually quoted horsepower measured at the
crankshaft; modern figures are measured as delivered to the
wheels.  So 444hp today is significantly more than 444hp
from the 70s.
