Good to hear that you found a way out of your predicament, James.

As for ID'ing the camera, I suggest you take a look at Copyright Info feature. In a nutshell, you can simply record in camera the name of the photographer that will automatically be put into metadata of images the camera would take. This info is also shown by the camera when you review the "info" of the picture taken with it.

There are of course less geeky way to do it, say, by having slightly different camera straps. Or by having a grip attached to your camera and not attaching it to that of your wife, etc.
