OK. I bought the IMAC this AM and got it going a little while ago. It read and imported the AVI files directly into IMovie and I have started editing. Not sure what the problem with my son's IMAC is but this one works great!! The images are very sharp, more so than I saw on the PC, and the whole experience so far is great! I guess I am sold. Many more questions in the future , I am sure.
