For the last programming project, in my first programming course for
full credit it had to keypunched. I discovered COBY(?), been a long
time I don't remember exactly, you could submit the program from a
terminal for punch card output. Produced both the JCL and the Program
as separate decks, unprinted of course. Had to resubmit the cards as a
job and request the printing be added to them. Seems complex but it was
much, much easier than actually using the keypunch. I think I was the
only member of the class to get 100% on that assignment...

I really like that.
I just missed learning Fortran on cards during the late 70's, although I did
use some software in grad school that came on cards.

Oh I remember those painful days of punched cards.
So do I.
I was in college back in the 60s and the return portion of the telephone
bill for my dorm room came printed on one with the instructions "Do Not
Bend, Fold, Spindle or Mutilate". 8-D
So, I of course regularly took it to the Comp-Sci lab and used the
keypunch to add rude suggestions to it before mailing it off with my
payment.
