In a lot of cases yes. Without quick shift yes. But when you are hanging in a precarious position using one hand to stop you from falling into the ocean and the other to hold the camera to your face, it tends to be quiet useful. Anything beyond 1:1 is manual focus only - in fact I use a set of bellows and Olympus lenses that gets me from about 1/4 life size to 16 time life size (though above 10 times it's getting a bit soft).
