I have checked Pop Photos's "SQF" numbers since they began their lens lab tests 
a number of years back. They may not be worth a damn, but their past test 
protocol explanations have impressed this anti geek.
The DA 55~300's test results were significantly higher than even those produced 
the DA* 300 f/4. Test sample variances notwithstanding.
BTW, and FWIW, dp comments have been very complimentary.
