I am younger than Paul and Bill, but I very often use AF (although not "blindly").
AF is not just for that grab-and-shoot quick shot. It has proven to be useful in many situations. (And D-FA lenses which focus can be easily manually adjusted are very convenient in this regard!) Try to shoot quick dances without AF. It is possible and every so often (especially in low-light situation), I switch to MF, but it is so much better to do it with AF, when the light is sufficient. I remember, the first time I was shooting dances 16 years ago (I had a MF SLR at that point), - when a (professional) photographer next to me was suprised how I can do that without an AF.
