The union guys would say its immoral. Obama and the dems would probably agree, since they agree with everything the unions say. But, no, it's not illegal or immoral, but the non-union shops gave the Japanese automakers a huge cost advantage over the domestic industry.
At least they set up plants in Noth America, although they had to be coerced into it, iirc.
