Taken advantage of the Circuit City liquidation, my wife an I recently
got new screens. She got the HP LP2275w (the 22" version of the one
you're considering) and I got the Samsung 22...something or other (you
can see a photo of it at
http://enticingthelight.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/calibrate-your-monitor/).
The reason I chose the Samsung was because it boasted a 10,000:1
dynamic contrast ratio, while the HP only had 3,000:1.

Now, I hate to admit my wife was right, but she may have made the best
choice. I've never calibrated her monitor, but it looks great out of
the box. I cannot tell any major differences in picture quality from
her HP to my Samsung. Where the are significant differences is in the
external hardware. The Samsung features a flimsy stand that is not
adjustable in height, and it flexes if you bang the table (I'm
considering mounting it on the wall to avoid this). The HP, on the
other hand, has a very sturdy stand that is adjustable not only in
height but also front-to-back, and it can be rotated to portrait mode
(and with the bundled drivers it will actually rotate your work area
so you can use it like that).

Maybe someone with better eyes can tell the difference in image
quality between the two monitors, but I can't, so if I were to do it
again, I would go with the HP just for the ergonomics.

My 2 cents.
