Assurant..? I think they are now known as AIG...
I dunno. For a couple of months during the summer of 2001, I had the
worst computer job imaginable. I was the guy who had to actually go
out and make all those extended warranty repairs.
The company I worked for contracted to fulfill the warranties in the
part of NC where I live. According to the woman who ran the place
Visa owned the company that sold the warranties.
The warranties are a rip-off, and the company that fulfills the
warranty is a rip-off. I probably lasted longer than most of their
"techs" because they screwed you every which way they could.
Piece rate for calls, and you had to provide your own
transportation. It was supposed to be all local calls, but I ended
up getting stuck with a lot of driving. They didn't reimburse
mileage. I figure the wear and tear on my car at $.35 a mile added
up to more than I ever got paid.
Plus you only got paid when a call was "closed"; so if whoever took
the call over the phone mis-diagnosed the problem and they sent out
the wrong part, you either didn't get paid for that call or you had
to make a second trip.
Ah, the sensitivities of corporate America, and the folks who run
them. I remember them well. I remember saying "they'll get theirs
someday."
Someday is now, muthas!
