Brent, your ZX-M lacks the TTL flash circuitry so forget about any TTL dedicated flashes. These, be it Pentax or third party, will only work with the rest of the ZX series. The best you can get is camera communicating the aperture to the flash. If your 383 already does that, than your setup is already maxed.
As for your lighting plan, it sounds good. For a weak fill-in, set the flash on the camera on low power (1/2 or 1/4).
