like i said, wrong country, wrong culture. nothing can be more
mainstream and middle-class than motorcycles in India. no hell's angels
or bad ass pretensions. just a convenient tool that can get you to work
and back and get a lot of other work done conveniently and cheaply. and
for a lot of us, the preferred mode of long distance travel.

places like these see at the most 5-10 motorcycles a year. small
cubic capacity motocycles (200-350 cc) that are mostly very fuel
efficient and whose emissions can be handled pretty well by the
environment because the numbers are so few....objecting to motorcycles
in nature spots also i feel conveniently pushes moral responsibility
for pollution, for the environment, elsewhere. the US remains the
largest emission of green house gases by a huge huge margin. like i
said, that's just my take...or my justification, if you can call it that
for motorcycling to places like the himalayas... apart from
enjoying myself immensely :-)
