If you have a lens with Quick-Shift focusing, you can set the camera up so that AF is only on the AF button and then have full-time Manual focus with AF accessible with the press of a button. That's how I have my D300 setup, as the only two AF lenses I regularly use with it are my 16-85VR and 10-20HSM which both have Full-Time Manual Focusing. It's near useless if you don't have QSF/FTM capable lenses. -- M.
